1.4404 is also called as SS 316L. It was developed low carbon content than its counterparts. It is useful in those areas wherein carbide precipitation is needed. The metal is applied commonly in the weldments wherein the carbon content combined with the welding is guaranteeing greater resistance against general corrosion and into the heavy gauge tools. This grade is considered to be highly resistant to oxidation, particularly in the warm marine atmosphere. Once again the low carbon level protects it against the carbon precipitations. The metal shows a very good oxidation resistance in too much low temperature, also at down to the cryogenic levels. Considering heat, it shows very good resistance to creep and stress to rupture and greater strength compared to the other steel grades.
