In rural and mild industrial atmospheres 630 Sheet stainless plate has excellent corrosion resistance. When exposed to sea coast atmospheres 630 Sheet stainless plate will slowly develop an overall light rusting and pitting. 630 Sheet stainless plate is used successfully in salt water as boat shafting, with cathodic protection.

This grade has good oxidation resistance, but to avoid reduction of its mechanical properties and hardness it should not be used above its age hardening temperature. Prolonger exposure in the range 370-480°C should be avoided if ambient temperature toughness is critical.
